DANVILLE -- Town residents were awarded for their contributions to the community at the 31st annual Community Service Awards.

About 200 people came out to the Danville Community Center for the Dec. 4 awards ceremony. The event kicked off with Vista Grande Elementary School student Brooke Cleary, 9, singing the "Star Spangled Banner," followed by Danville Poet Laureate Lea Kagel reading a poem titled "The Test."

The awards were then doled out for a variety of categories. The town council said its goodbyes to several outgoing commissioners. The night ended with the council welcoming newly elected Councilwoman Renee Morgan to the board and reappointing Newell Arnerich and Robert Storer to mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

The winners are:

  • Parks and Leisure Services Commission Volunteer of the Year Award: Cindy Egan

  • Arts Commission Volunteer of the Year Award: Wendy Cooper

  • Volunteer of the Year Award: Sylvia Simon

    The Service Awards winners are:

  • Four Years of Service: Doug McQuillan, Marc Silveira, Paul Radich, Tiffany Atwood

  • Eight Years of Service: Lee Halverson, Renee Morgan

  • Twelve Years of Service: Celeste Evans, Robert Storer

  • Sixteen Years of Service: Kevin Donovan

    Awards of Merit went to:

  • Toolworks

  • Warriors Watch Riders and Diablo Valley Flag Brigade
