Freedom rolls over Berkeley

  • The Freedom High football team was firing on all cylinders as it handed Berkeley a 63-7 defeat in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs on Nov. 10. Freedom running back Joe Mixon scored four touchdowns before halftime and quarterback Dante Mayes racked up 269 yards in the air and three touchdowns.

    Pittsburg upsets Monte Vista

  • The Pittsburg High football team defeated Monte Vista 52-29 in the first round of the NCS Division I playoffs on Nov. 9. Harris Ross ran for 269 yards and four touchdowns and teammate Craijon Menefee rushed for three touchdowns.

    Heritage wins BVAL title

  • The Heritage High boys and girls cross country team both finished first at the Bay Valley Athletic League finals held at Contra Loma Lake in Antioch on Nov. 1. For the Heritage girls, AnnJellica Nubla (fifth place), Brennan Peppard (seventh) and Delaney Sparling (eighth) finished in the top 10. For the Heritage boys, Jason Brown (first), Solomon Demeku (fifth) and Jacob Drees (seventh) placed in the top 10.

  • Pittsburg at De La Salle, football, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. -- The ninth-seeded Pirates face their biggest challenge of the season against perennial powerhouse and No. 1 seed De La Salle in the second round of the NCS Division I playoffs.

  • Freedom at James Logan, football, Nov. 17, 7 p.m. -- The sixth-seeded Falcons travel to Union City to face a tough opponent in James Logan, the third seed, in the second round of the NCS Division I playoffs.

  • NCS championships, cross country, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. -- The boys and girls cross country teams of Antioch, Deer Valley, Freedom, Heritage, Liberty and Pittsburg will compete in the NCS Division I championships this Saturday at Hayward High.

  • Joe Mixon, Freedom football -- Mixon scored five touchdowns in a 63-7 win over Berkeley. Mixon ran for 160 yards and also had 80 yards receiving.

  • Harris Ross, Pittsburg football -- Ross ran for 269 yards and four touchdowns in the Pirates' 55-29 win over Monte Vista.

  • Dante Mayes, Freedom football -- Mayes threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for two touchdowns in a 63-7 route over Berkeley.

  • Jason Brown, Heritage boys cross country -- Brown finished first with a time of 16:29 at the Bay Valley Athletic League finals held at Contra Loma Lake on Nov. 1.
