Ian Peters, of Pleasanton, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
The National Society of High School Scholars announced that Joseph M. Hoffman, of Pleasanton, has been selected for membership. The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence.
Ian Peters, of Troop 948, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Sean McCutcheon has received his Eagle Scout award. For his Eagle Scout project Peters was involved in planning and building a memorial garden area and installing a bench at his church, Trinity Lutheran in Pleasanton. His project encompassed more than 125 hours of service. He is the son of Chris and Scott Peters, of Pleasanton, and is a senior at Amador Valley High School.
Amanda Schmitz, of Pleasanton, received the Community Service Award from College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Sargent College, at Boston University in Boston. The award recognizes seniors who are actively involved in volunteering services outside the university. Schmitz volunteered with the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, the Special Olympics swimming competition and the neonatal unit and emergency department at Boston Medical Center. In addition, she served as an EMT for Boston University Emergency Medical Services, a home health aide for Always Here Home Health Care and a volunteer
