TRI-VALLEY -- The 29th annual National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, with local efforts taking place across the Tri-Valley from 6 to 9 p.m.
National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, Danville and San Ramon police departments.
More than 37 million people in more than 15,000 communities will join forces to heighten awareness in neighborhoods and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts.
Neighborhood get-togethers have ranged in recent years from simple soirees to elaborate events, from potlucks and barbecues to ice cream socials and live concerts. Celebrations often include closed off street parties, some with bounce houses and other kid-friendly activities.
"We hope this opportunity strengthens neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships," Danville police Chief Steve Simpkins said. "Events like this send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back."
