Dublin wins Don Nelson title

  • The Dublin High boys basketball team got 21 points and 10 rebounds from senior Jamir Andrews in a 66-63 win over Heritage in the Dec. 15 championship game of the Don Nelson Classic in Dublin. The Gaels (6-2) outscored the Patriots 20-14 in the fourth quarter after trailing 49-46 through three quarters. Andrews had 16 points in the Gaels' 78-43 win over Concord in the semifinals. Joe McGlaston, an all-tournament selection, had 19 points and 12 rebounds against the Minutemen.

    Foothill outkicks Carondelet

  • The Foothill High girls soccer team upended Carondelet 2-1 on a goal by Jessica Amos in the 79th minute in the teams' East Bay Athletic League opener on Dec. 13. It was the Falcons' first win over the Cougars in league play since the 2008-09 season. San Ramon Valley, Monte Vista and Amador Valley were also victorious on opening night of EBAL play.

    SRV rallies to stun Mater Dei

  • The San Ramon Valley High boys soccer team rallied from two goals down to stun Mater Dei-Santa Ana 3-2 on Dec. 15 in the De La Salle Showcase. The Wolves also routed Gilroy 5-1 in the Showcase. Against Mater Dei, Wolves defender Jake Wood scored what proved to be the winner off an Alex Maestre assist in the 67th minute. Also scoring for San Ramon Valley were Matt Maul on a penalty kick and Jason Bromley off an assist from Carter Zetterquist.

    Livermore remains hot

  • The Livermore High boys basketball team improved to 8-1 in nonleague play with wins over Rancho Cotate and Tracy last week. Junior Andrei Kasten had 20 points in a 75-52 win over Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park on Dec. 15, and Louie Hernandez had 18 points in a 63-59 win over Tracy on Dec. 12

    Monte Vista tops California

  • The defending North Coast Section Division I champion Monte Vista High girls soccer team topped host California 1-0 in an attractive matchup on Dec. 13. Junior Dana Outcalt scored the winner on a header off a Chelsea Barry corner kick in the first half. California goalkeeper Lauren Holden made 10 saves.

  • Holiday Classic All-Star Game, football, Dec. 22, 1 p.m. -- The stars from Alameda and Contra Costa counties will get another chance to impress the college scouts while playing for bragging rights at Pittsburg High.

  • Jamir Andrews, Dublin boys soccer -- Andrews was named tournament MVP of the Don Nelson Classic after scoring a game-high 19 points in a 66-63 win over visiting Heritage in the championship game on Dec. 15

  • Rachel Hernandez, Livermore girls basketball -- Hernandez, a sophomore guard, paced the balanced Cowboys (7-1) with 13 points in a 57-52 win over Redwoods on Dec. 15. Dani Dufex had 12 for the winners.

  • Josh Slaton, Amador Valley boys basketball -- Slaton paced a balanced offense with 10 points in a 52-44 win over Concord on Dec. 15 in the third-place game of the Don Nelson Classic.

  • Chad Wilkenson, Livermore boys basketball -- Wilkenson, a senior captain, had 30 points combined in the Cowboys' wins over Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park and Tracy in nonleague games last week.
