PINOLE -- With strong efforts from quarterback James Lewis and receiver Kenyon Jackson, the Oakland Tech High football team defeated Pinole Valley 37-14 on Friday night for its first victory of the season.

Lewis ran for 137 yards, including a 56-yard dash on a read option that gave the Bulldogs (1-1) a 6-0 lead.

Two possessions later, facing a 3rd-and-18 from his own 35-yard-line, Lewis dumped a halfback screen to Jackson over the Spartans' blitzing linebackers. Jackson took the pass 65 yards for another score.

The Spartans' defense came alive in the second quarter as defensive back Eric Chandler forced and recovered a Lewis fumble on the Bulldogs' 4-yard line, leading to quarterback Troyante McConico's 2-yard touchdown run.

Numerous turnovers and penalties marred the second half for both teams, but the Bulldogs converted three of those opportunities into touchdowns on runs by Eric Thomas, Lamar Davis and Lewis.

Isiah Lewis rushed for 88 yards for Pinole Valley (0-2).
