LMC stretches win streak to five

  • The Los Medanos College baseball team finished a three-game sweep of Contra Costa with an 8-2 victory on April 18. Ben Polansky earned his fifth win of the season and pitched all nine innings, recording four strikeouts and allowing one earned run. The Mustangs (21-12, 12-6 BVC) have now won five consecutive games and face Laney in their final three-game series of Bay Valley Conference play.

    Liberty softball team gets past Deer Valley

  • The Liberty softball team won its first two BVAL games of the season, cruising to an 11-1 win over Antioch on April 15, and beating Deer Valley 6-4 on April 17. Deer Valley rallied for three runs in the seventh inning, but Madison Jackson closed it out and earned the win for the Lions after battling in the circle for seven innings. Liberty entered this week with a 6-9 overall record and next plays at Freedom on April 29.

    Heritage golf team perfect in BVAL play

  • The Heritage boys golf team improved to a perfect 8-0 in BVAL play after defeating Freedom 219-224 at Shadow Lake Golf Club on April 17. The Patriots will compete next in the league tournament on April 28 at their home course at Shadow Lakes Golf Club.

  • Laney at Los Medanos, baseball, April 25, 7 p.m. -- The Mustangs will host Laney (18-15, 9-9 BVC), which had won three straight coming into this week, in their final game of conference play.

  • BVAL Tournament, boys golf, April 28, 3:30 p.m. -- Shadow Lakes Golf Club will host the BVAL Tournament, as golfers aim for a league title and look to advance to the North Coast Section championships.

  • Liberty at Freedom, softball, April 29, 4 p.m. -- Liberty will face off against a tough Freedom squad, which is looking to move up the BVAL standings.

  • Marissa Espinoza, Heritage, softball -- Espinoza pitched a gem against Pittsburg, striking out seven batters in six innings, while allowing just two hits and one walk in the 12-0 rout.

  • Jessica Jones, Liberty, softball -- In the first game of BVAL play, Jones went 4 for 4 with two RBIs in Liberty's 11-1 win over Antioch.

  • Alyssa Kirk, Heritage, softball -- Kirk was an impressive 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the Patriots 11-7 win over Freedom.

  • Ryan Lacey, Los Medanos, baseball -- Lacey was an offensive catalyst in the Mustangs' 8-2 victory over Contra Costa on April 18. At the plate Lacey went 2 for 3 with two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

  • Kevin Milam, Heritage, baseball -- Milam pitched five scoreless and earned in the win in Heritage's 12-0 rout over Freedom on April 17.
