Discover Art Leagues opens new exhibit
BRENTWOOD -- Discover Art League opens "Visions of the Figure art exhibit with a reception 4 to 8 p.m. Jan 12 at CR Framing, 700 Harvest Park Drive. The show features drawings and paintings of clothed and costumed models created by a figure-sketching group that meets at the gallery. Dancers, actresses -- even a volunteer firefighter -- sport a wild array of creative costumes and poses in this colorful collection.

Auditions set for 'The Spell of Sleeping Beauty
ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children s Theatre will host auditions for "The Spell of Sleeping Beauty at 5 p.m. Jan. 10 and 1 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St.
Actors 7 to 12 may audition. A $75 nonrefundable participation fee is required.
Rehearsals will be 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 and 26, and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20.

Auditions set for 'The Unexpected Guest
ANTIOCH -- The Vagabond Players will hold auditions for its first production of the 2013 season -- "The Unexpected Guest, a mystery by Agatha Christie.
Auditions are 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.
Seeking six male actors and three female actors of various ages. Rehearsals will begin Jan. 14 with performances beginning Feb. 22 through March 24. Actors must able to travel to retirement communities, senior centers and assisted living facilities on weekends and afternoons for performances. A travel stipend will be given.
'Thumbelina set to open in Antioch
ANTIOCH -- El Campanil Children s Theatre will open "Thumbelina on Jan. 11.
This classic tale by Hans Christian Anderson, adapted by Vera Morris, tells the story of a miniature girl born from a flower who has to find her own way in the world of nature. The imaginative production takes theatergoers into Thumbelina s world, fraught with dangers for one so small.

Piano Duo music and wine recital planned
BRENTWOOD -- Piano Duo Polyhymnia will present a music and wine recital at the Thompson Music Studio at 2628 Saint Andrews Drive.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and 3:30 p.m. Jan. 20. Doors will open one-half hour before the performances.
The event features music by Schubert, Liszt, Brahms and Bartock inspired by the folk music of Hungary.

Local art group looking for artists for show
PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg Arts Collaborative is looking for local artists and volunteers in preparation for its Annual Winter Art Exhibit opening Jan. 19 at the Impulse Gallery at 329 Railroad Ave.
Submission of artwork will take place Jan. 12 and 13 at the Impulse Gallery. However, much work needs to be done in preparation for that date and PACO is looking for volunteers to help.
Each artist may submit three pieces for a $35 entry fee. PACO s artist s opening reception will be held on Jan. 19, between 6 and 8 p.m. and feature cash awards, live music, hors d oeuvres and refreshments.
