DISCOVERY BAY -- Residents interested in helping plan for a long-awaited community center are encouraged to get involved.
The Discovery Bay Community Services District is accepting letters of interest and statements of qualifications from citizens interested in sitting on a community center committee next year.
The committee is a five-member group, which includes board president Chris Steele and vice president Kevin Graves. The district's directors will make the final appointments.
The town is in escrow for a 10.24-acre piece of property on Discovery Bay Boulevard and Willow Lake Road that includes the Discovery Bay Athletic Club. That parcel would be split with Delta Community Presbyterian Church so 7.4 acres could be used for a center.
The committee will assist with the feasibility, planning, location and ongoing operations of a Discovery Bay community center. Applicants are encouraged to have skills in project planning, economic feasibility, construction and construction management, or just be interested in the center's creation.
Applications must be submitted by Jan. 11.
