Gerald Glasper, Project 4 lead Jam Session

PITTSBURG -- Ever want to sing a duet with James Brown or Rick James? You can on Sunday when Gerald Glasper and Project 4 perform as the house band for the Pittsburg Entertainment & Arts Hall of Fame s Second Sundays Jam Sessions from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pacific Community Services, 329 Railroad Ave.

Glasper, one of Pittsburg s most popular entertainers, is known for his impersonations of Brown and James. Glasper is the organizer of Project 4, which is known for its musicianship and ability to transcend genres.

Vocalists, musicians and spoken word artists are invited to participate in the Jam Session.

General admission is $10 and $5 for PEAHOF members.

'Thumbelina set to open in Antioch

ANTIOCH -- El Campanil Children s Theatre will open "Thumbelina Friday.

This classic tale by Hans Christian Anderson, adapted by Vera Morris, tells the story of a miniature girl born from a flower who has to find her own way in the world of nature. The imaginative production takes theatergoers into Thumbelina s world, fraught with dangers for one so small.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday, 602 W. Second St.

Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62 and older and $8 for children 17 and younger.

Children s theater holds auditions for 'The Little Mermaid

ANTIOCH -- El Campanil Children s Theatre will host auditions for "The Little Mermaid 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St. Call backs will be 4 p.m. Jan. 16.

The adaptation by acclaimed children s playwright Lane Riosley, skips the well- known happy ending to tell the fairy tale as Hans Christian Andersen originally wrote it. Sharon Redman directs.

Seeking three to seven male, and three to eight females cast members ages 10 through 18.

Rehearsals begin Jan. 22; performances will be March 7 through March 14.

Discover Art Leagues opens new exhibit

BRENTWOOD -- Discover Art League opens "Visions of the Figure art exhibit with a reception 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at CR Framing, 700 Harvest Park Drive.

The show features drawings and paintings of clothed and costumed models created by a figure-sketching group that meets at the gallery. Dancers, actresses -- even a volunteer firefighter -- sport a wild array of creative costumes and poses in this colorful collection.

Auditions set for 'The Spell of Sleeping Beauty

ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children s Theatre will host auditions for "The Spell of Sleeping Beauty at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St.

Actors 7 to 12 may audition. A $75 nonrefundable participation fee is required.

Rehearsals will be 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 and 26, and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20.

Art show benefits Special Haven

BRENTWOOD -- Art From the Heart, an art exhibit by individuals with special needs, is looking for artists for a show noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 12 through Feb. 16 at The Gallery on Second, 741 Second St.

The sale of the art will benefit Special Haven, a therapeutic, multi-sensory room developed to benefit children and adults with special needs. All schools and programs are welcome to participate.

Piano Duo music and wine recital planned

BRENTWOOD -- Piano Duo Polyhymnia will present a music and wine recital at the Thompson Music Studio at 2628 Saint Andrews Drive.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and 3:30 p.m. Jan. 20. Doors will open one-half hour before the performances.

The event features music by Schubert, Liszt, Brahms and Bartock inspired by the folk music of Hungary.

Local art group looking for artists for show

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg Arts Collaborative is looking for local artists and volunteers in preparation for its annual Winter Art Exhibit opening Jan. 19 at the Impulse Gallery at 329 Railroad Ave.

Submission of artwork will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Impulse Gallery. Each artist may submit three pieces for a $35 entry fee. The artists opening reception will be held on Jan. 19, between 6 and 8 p.m. and feature cash awards, live music, hors d oeuvres and refreshments.
