The Contra Costa County Library is turning 100 this year. Far East Contra Costa County will host a 100th Anniversary Celebration called "Wayback Wednesday" at the Brentwood Community Center on Wednesday, March 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Things will kick off with remarks from Supervisor Mary Piepho, Assemblyman Jim Frazier, and County Librarian Barbara Flynn. Activities will include live old-time music, a craft, old-time photos, and butter-making. The East Bay Regional Park District and the East Contra Costa Historical Society will have displays set up describing life 100 years ago in Contra Costa County.

CHILDREN'S/FAMILY PROGRAMS IN EAST COUNTY "Chill Out with a Book" Winter Reading Program at the Brentwood Library -- Through March 16. For school-age children and teens. Celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday at the Pittsburg Library -- Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. Celebrate reading with activities and games based on some of Dr. Seuss's popular books. Dog Safety and Care Workshop at the Antioch Library -- Wednesday, March 6 at 3 p.m. A representative from the Tony La Russa Animal Rescue Foundation will share tips on dog care and safety as well as introduce visitors to their own four-legged friends. Angel Ears at the Antioch Library -- Saturdays, March 9 and 23, noon to 1:30 p.m. Try out your reading skills by reading to a loving dog. The dog won't talk back and will listen attentively. You can't ask for a better audience. Nature Walk at Contra Loma with the Antioch Library and Ranger Bob -- March 16, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Ranger Bob will lead us on a 45-minute nature walk at Contra Loma Reservoir. The walk will begin at the entrance to the Swim Lagoon (which is about a 3-minute walk from the parking lot.) There is a $5 parking fee. Rain will cancel the event. Read to a Dog at the Oakley Library -- March 16, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a dog from HALO Angel Ears Therapy Dogs. Sign up for a 10- to 15-minute session. Walk-ins as space permits. For children 6-13. Greyhounds Meet & Greet Storytime at the Antioch Library -- Wednesday, March 20, 3 to 3:30 p.m. Join us for a special story about a greyhound and then meet and greet two wonderful greyhounds. The story will also be followed up by a fun activity.
