ANTIOCH -- Lights out.
Antioch is encouraging residents and businesses to participate in Earth Hour 2013 by turning off their lights from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Antioch is one of 34 cities recognized around the county as participants in the "Earth Hour City Challenge." The program is part of the city's Climate Action Plan, which was adopted in May 2011.
The simple action is an easy way to "think globally and act locally" and acknowledge and celebrate the city's commitment to protecting the planet, according to a city news release.
The event is also being used to kick off a "lights out at night" program for City Hall, according to the city.
