'Aladdin opens Friday

ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children s Theatre presents "Aladdin 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St.

Frank J. Ballesteros directs.

Additional performances are 7:30 p.m. April 5 and 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 6.

General admission is $10; students ages 13 through 17 are $8; children 12 and younger are $5.

'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz auditions set

ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children s Theatre will hold auditions for "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz 5 p.m. April 8 and 9 at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St., Antioch.

Frank Ballesteros directs this classic tale by L. Frank Baum, adapted by Tim Kelly.

Auditions are open to actors ages 7 and older. Everyone will have a speaking role.

Rehearsals will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Performances will be May 17, 18, 24 and 25. If cast, there is a $75 participation fee. For more information, call 925-234-1465.

A tribute to Andrew Webber

ANTIOCH -- The El Campanil Theatre hosts The World of Webber, a cabaret tribute to the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Performed in an intimate concert-style by three Broadway-calibre singers Tielle Baker, Kelly Brandeburg and Kyle Martin with piano accompaniment, the revue features Webber classics including "Music Of The Night, "Memory, "Don t Cry For Me, Argentina, as well as selections from many of his other shows.

Joining the cast for one number is 16-year-old Nicholas Crossen, recent contestant on season 12 of "American Idol and student at De La Salle High School.

The performance is 8 p.m. April 6, 602 W. Second St.

General admission is $25, seniors 62 and older $23, children 17 and younger $15.

Student art exhibit returns

BRENTWOOD -- A Visual Voices show returns with an exhibit of unique student art, created in Brentwood s Summerset III s drawing class.

Instructor Peggy Magovern brings the students diverse and creative body of work for the exhibit. A reception will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gallery on Second, 741 Second St. Admission is free. The exhibit runs through March 30. For information, call 925-516-2741.

Piano Duo Polyhymnia performs

PITTSBURG -- Los Medanos College presents a faculty and guest recital with Eric and Catherine Thompson performing the works for Piano Solo and Piano Duet, with music by Schubert, Liszt, Brahms, and Bartok, inspired by the folk music of Hungary.

Art4Schools exhibit set at Lynn House Gallery

ANTIOCH -- The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch hosts the ninth annual Art4Schools exhibits at the Lynn House Gallery.

The Art4Schools exhibits features Antioch Unified School District classrooms involved in the Arts4Schools Program, sponsored by the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch, Union Pacific Foundation, the city of Antioch and a Calpine funded through the office of Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover.

The the final exhibits includes art from Turner and Diablo schools displayed May 15-25.

The gallery is open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., during exhibits. There is no admission fee for the reception or exhibit.

Sandra Berkson is league s artist of the month

BRENTWOOD -- Discover Art League has named Sandra Berkson as Artist of the Month for March.

Berkson has been associated with The Discover Art League for four years and is known for her works of abstract art.

Berkson was a self-taught artist until beginning college at Los Positas in Livermore. As her interest in learning grew, she went on to the California College of the Arts graduating with a BFA and finishing with a MFA at Academy Art University.

Several pieces of Berkson s work will be exhibited at CR Framing, 700 Harvest Park Drive through March. CR Framing is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
