Weekend wine tasting at Hannah Nicole

BRENTWOOD -- Hannah Nicole hosts its eighth annual Barrel Tasting from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, 6700 Balfour Road.

The Barrel Tasting will offer wine enthusiasts the first chance to taste Hannah Nicole s upcoming fall 2013 future releases. This year, Hannah Nicole will showcase a variety of red and white wines, including six representations of both the 2011 vintage reds and 2012 white wines.

Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds or purchase cheese and crackers from the winery

Registration will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for wine club members and the general public. Advance tickets are $15 for wine club members and $20 for nonmembers, and $25 at the door for everyone. Admission price will include a commemorative glass.

Piano virtuoso and violinist sister to perform

BRENTWOOD -- Alex Marquez, Brentwood s gifted young virtuoso pianist, performs an eclectic program of classical music at 3 p.m. April 14 at Summerset Orchards Lodge, 770 Centennial Place.

'Shakespeare Comes to Calamity Creek at PCT

PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg Community Theatre is set to open "Shakespeare Comes to Calamity Creek at the Creative Arts Building, 250 School St.

Performances are 8 p.m. April 26, 27 and May 3 and 4 and 2 p.m. April 28 and May 5.

The play is based on a book by Tim Kelly, music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur and directed by Betty Brown.

A hilarious melodrama that tells the story of a conceited actor who comes to a small mining town hoping to bring culture to the locals.

Tribute to the Beatles comes to Antioch

ANTIOCH -- El Campanil Theatre presents Three of Us: An Acoustic Tribute to the Beatles.

Three Of Us brings together a trio of top-notch vocalists/musicians whose passion for the music of the Beatles shines through in their performances. The group features The Sun Kings Drew Harrison and Jim Funk, and Tom Fleming.

Gallery On Second set to open new exhibit

BRENTWOOD -- The Gallery On Second opens a new exhibit the "Scintillating Six, with local artists Augustus "Gus " Daugherty, oil on wood panel and canvas; Josie O Malley, contemporary art; Mary Lamb, pottery; Rosalinda Grejsen, ceramics; Bridgette Barrows-Newby, sculptor; and Beverly C. Turner, sculptor.

The exhibit runs noon to 5 p.m. April 10 through 27 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 29 and May 5 at the Gallery on Second, 741 Second St.

A free reception is set for 4 to 7 p.m. April 13 at the Gallery on Second where artists O Malley and Daugherty will unveil never before seen paintings. In addition, there will be a free raffle drawing for a framed giclee reproduction of one of Daugherty s paintings.

Brentwood Writes celebrates Poetry Month

BRENTWOOD -- Brentwood Writes will bring all forms of the written word at Open Mic at 6:30 p.m. April 11 at the Gallery on Second, 741 Second St.

All short work -- poetry, short story, nonfiction, or any other creative work -- is welcome. Participants are allowed five minutes each to perform. The group encourages participants to bring work on any subject, their own or that of another writer, as long as it is neither insulting nor abusive. Everyone is invited whether performing or listening and enjoying.

This event is free and open to the public. Brentwood Writes is an adjunct of the Brentwood Art Society and the Brentwood Community Library. Kati Short, poet laureate, is the host.

'Aladdin continues at Children s Theatre

'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz auditions set

ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children s Theatre will hold auditions for "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St., Antioch.

Frank Ballesteros directs this classic tale by L. Frank Baum, adapted by Tim Kelly.

Auditions are open to actors ages 7 and older. Everyone will have a speaking role.

A tribute to Andrew Webber

ANTIOCH -- The El Campanil Theatre hosts "The World of Webber, a cabaret tribute to the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Performed in an intimate concert-style by three Broadway-caliber singers Tielle Baker, Kelly Brandeburg and Kyle Martin with piano accompaniment, the revue features Webber classics, including "Music Of The Night, "Memory, "Don t Cry For Me, Argentina, as well as selections from many of his other shows.

Joining the cast for one number is 16-year-old Nicholas Crossen, recent contestant on season 12 of "American Idol and student at De La Salle High School.

Piano Duo Polyhymnia performs

Art4Schools exhibit set at Lynn House Gallery

ANTIOCH -- The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch hosts the ninth annual Art4Schools exhibits at the Lynn House Gallery.

The Art4Schools exhibits features Antioch Unified School District classrooms involved in the Arts4Schools Program, sponsored by the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch, Union Pacific Foundation, the city of Antioch and a Calpine funded through the office of Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover.

The the final exhibits include art from ENCORE Home Schooling April 24 and 27 and Turner and Diablo schools displayed May 15-25.

The gallery is open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., during exhibits. There is no admission fee for the reception or exhibit.
