Drivers who head from Antioch to cities farther east on Highway 4 may want to find an alternate route early next week.

All eastbound lanes of the freeway will be closed between Hillcrest Avenue and where it intersects with Highway 160 from 1 to 4 a.m. in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, according to a Caltrans news release.

The contractor widening Highway 4 to eight lanes will be removing an existing overhead sign structure that spans the road, Caltrans said.

Motorists will be detoured off the freeway at Hillcrest, right on East 18th Street, right on Empire Avenue in Oakley and right on Laurel Road onto the freeway. Drivers headed northbound on Highway 160 can enter the freeway from the detour at East 18th Street.

Drivers should allow extra commute time and expect delays.
