Jerry hurls no-hitter in win over Amador: Liberty's diamond cavorters demonstrated how ball games are won the hard way when they bested the Amador Dons Friday afternoon on the Livermore High School field by a score of 5 to 4.

Jerry Vonder Ahe pitched a no-hitter for the Lions, but in the first inning had deep, deep trouble. The Dons made all four of their runs in the bottom of the first without anything remotely resembling a bingle. There were two walks, two batters hit by pitched balls, two wild pitches and, for good measure, a pair of errors.

After that, the Dons were helpless. Liberty collected eight hits, and put across the winning run in the seventh inning. Neither team was able to hit the ball to the outfield.

Arley Reeves gives service with a smile at Liberty High School: Arley Reeves has been attending Liberty Union High School for 19 years and to this day he hasn't grown tired of the campus.

"I love it here, I really do. I hope I can keep coming to Liberty for years to come," said Reeves, an employee with the school district's building and grounds department.

"I feel we are we're just one big happy family here. No one here acts any better than anyone else. That's one of the things that makes working here so enjoyable. If you need anything special at all, the superintendent's door is just a knock away," Reeves said.

Although Superintendent Phil White believes the staff at Liberty is one of the best around, he feels Reeves' attitude makes the veteran district employee very special.

"Arley has an exceptional demeanor. He just has a very pleasant aura about him. He's always got a smile and a kind word too," White said.

"First of all, he's one of the most reliable people around. He operates well independently and he knows his job. One thing that really impresses me about Arley is that he somehow manages to get the job done in a top-notch manner yet that is least costly to the district. He also handles equipment with the utmost care which saves the district money," White said.

Reeves, once a student himself at the high school, graduated from Liberty in 1946.
