DISCOVERY BAY -- Highway 4 was temporarily closed in both directions as crews work to airlift a motorcyclist who suffered major injuries in a crash.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 6:57 p.m. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and fell roughly 30 feet down an embankment.

Paramedics were working to land a helicopter in the area to fly the victim, who suffered undisclosed serious injuries, to a hospital.

Officials did not immediately know what caused the crash. Highway 4 is expected to be closed for about 10 minutes in both directions.
