ANTIOCH -- A search continued Tuesday for a Brentwood resident who walked away from a hospital and jumped into a canal Monday night, authorities said.
Police did not identify the individual, who left Sutter Delta Medical Center and jumped into the canal on Lone Tree Way and James Donlon Boulevard shortly before 7:30 p.m., according to the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
Police and fire crews spent more than 2 hours looking for the person before handing off the search to Contra Costa County Water District patrol police.
Canal police continued to search Tuesday, according to public affairs director Jennifer Allen. The canal is patrolled on a regular basis, she said.
It's not known why the person was in the hospital or why the person left, police said.
