BRENTWOOD -- East Contra Costa County Fire worked for two hours to extinguish a brush fire that burned four acres near Balfour Road, a Contra Costa Fire Protection District dispatcher said.
The fire began around 1:15 p.m. at Balfour Road near the Highway 4 bypass, the dispatcher said. The highway bypass was closed in both directions as of 1:50 p.m.; officials did not have an estimate on when it would be reopened.
The fire was contained around 3:30 p.m.
It was not known immediately if any structures were in danger. A call to a battalion chief on the scene was not returned immediately.
