School's art project will be revealed Tuesday

Liberty High School's Arts and Humanities Academy will formally reveal its utility box public art project at 11 a.m. on June 4 at the corner of Pine and Second streets in downtown Brentwood.

At that time, the city of Brentwood is sponsoring a grand revealing and ribbon cutting ceremony. Light refreshments will be served.

This is the academy's second public art project. The student artists painted five utility boxes throughout the downtown area with local agricultural images, including strawberries, corn, pumpkins, peaches and cherries.

The Brentwood City Council allocated $10,706 from the city's public art funds to support the project. For additional information on the event, contact the city at 925-516-5444.

City's parks to receive more shading structures

There will be more shading at several Brentwood parks thanks to grants that the city has acquired from the East Bay Regional Park District.

The city's application for Measure WW grant funds was recently approved for up to $425,000, according to city officials. Some of the parks that will obtain shade structures are Sunset Park Athletic Complex, Blue Goose Park, Veterans Park's Universal Abilities Playground, Oak Meadow Park and Balfour-Guthrie Park.

The project would bring shade to the bleachers at Sunset Park Athletic Complex and Balfour-Guthrie Park. It would also bring relief from the summer heat to various sections of the popular Blue Goose Park off O'Hara Avenue and the new all-abilities, pirate-themed playground on Balfour Road.
