Another school year is nearly over. A whole summer of fun and relaxation is ahead for many. But, come fall, some of those giving and grand campus fixtures will start a new adventure: Retirement. A large group of school employees -- from teachers with decades served to warehouse operators to admin assistants -- will retire from East County schools this month.

Here's wishing them well in their next chapter.

Antioch Unified School District

After 36 years in education, Bill Bolio leaves his position as Marsh Elementary principal this year.

Retired teacher Sally Lucia worked with Bolio for 12 years at Belshaw Elementary.

"Bill was a strong principal, interested in learning and trying new things, always with the idea of making Belshaw better," she said. "He was very involved, at all levels, with school life. He was outside to greet students in the morning, on the playground at recesses, in the cafeteria at lunches, he counseled students, visited classrooms. He made time for the students. He truly cared, and they knew it."
