Contra Costa firefighters will be out on the streets of Antioch, Concord, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek next week looking to give muscular disease the boot.

Men and women from Local 1230 will be holding a "Fill the Boot" fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at several major intersections. They are:

  • June 5 at Walnut Creek's Mt. Diablo and N. California boulevards.

  • June 7 at Pleasant Hill's Contra Costa and Taylor boulevards.

Collected money from drivers and pedestrians will go toward the more than 2,000 local families served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an agency working to defeat muscle diseases through research, comprehensive services, and education.

The agency is the largest nongovernmental sponsor of neuromuscular disease research.
