DISCOVERY BAY -- Community Services District directors on Tuesday appointed Marianne Wiesen to fill a vacant seat on the board.
Wiesen, a three-year Discovery Bay resident who is involved on the town's community center committee and several local service organizations, including the Discovery Bay Lions Club, replaces Ray Tetreault, who resigned last month for health reasons.
"I am honored and humbled to have been chosen to fill the balance of Ray's term," Wiesen said after Tuesday's selection.
The Rotarian motto of "service above self" reflects her attitude toward being civic involvement, she said.
Three people applied for the position, which will be up for election in November 2014.
As a nursing home administrator in western Illinois for 32 years, Wiesen gained experience in grant writing, handling budgets and listening to people, she told the board.
Wiesen, 71, says her personal passion is that Discovery Bay Community Center become successful and become a central gathering place with programs for all ages. She will have to hone up on other board responsibilities such as water and wastewater issues.
"I have a learning curve ahead in digesting the government policies and duties of the town," she said. "However, my key focus will be on listening to the people of the community and speaking their voice."
