MARTINEZ -- Five people charged in the vicious beating and stabbing of an Antioch man have pleaded not guilty in Contra Costa County court.
Vincent Basulto, 18, his aunt Rose Basulto, 31, and Rose's boyfriend Joshua Thayn, 34, each pleaded not guilty to murder charges Monday in connection with the June 30 slaying of 54-year-old Daniel Ingram.
Ingram's girlfriend Lynn Jaeger, 53, pleaded not guilty Monday to accessory to murder after the fact. Vincent Basulto's friend Avery Klein, 18, pleaded not guilty to the same charge July 9.
Prosecutors say Ingram was stabbed in the heart and had his throat slit by Vincent Basulto after a brutal beating that Basulto's aunt had orchatrated because she and her boyfriend believed that Ingram had stolen their welder and other property. The couple and their children had been living with Ingram rent-free and had been asked to leave, prosecutors say.
All of the defendants remain in jail custody. They return to court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 3.
