Tom Chilton and Gabriele Tarquini recorded victories Sunday in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races at Sonoma Raceway.

Chilton (Chevrolet) converted his first-ever WTCC pole into his maiden victory in the first 13-lap race at the 12-turn, 2.50-mile course.

After starting the second race in second, it took only two corners for Tarquini (Honda) to pass pole-sitter Mehdi Bennani (BMW), and the Italian led for the remainder of the race.

Tarquini's win clinched the manufacturers' title for Honda in its first full season in the series.

"The key to my victory was the start. ... To beat a rear-wheel drive car under acceleration is very, very nice," Tarquini said.
