BRENTWOOD -- The library here wants everyone to get on the same page -- or at least on a page of the same book.
For its 11th annual "CityRead," Brentwood library is encouraging the masses to read a book by local author Dan Hanel between now and Oct. 27.
Hanel wrote "In the Shadow of Diablo: Mystery of the Great Stone House." The novel is a contemporary whodunnit that moves between the present and past, interweaving historical narrative about the murder of 19th-century pioneer John Marsh with the adventures of a Brentwood science teacher who sets out to investigate the suicide of one of his students.
Copies are available at the library, 104 Oak St., and after reading it, individuals either can return the book or pass it on to someone else. The library's fundraising arm along with several other local community service groups donated funds to buy copies for the community.
Hanel also will participate in the CityRead Author Program at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak St.
Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
