MARTINEZ -- A Southern California man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Oakley in 2011.
Pedro Garcia, 49, of Moreno Valley, was convicted by a Contra Costa County jury in August of rape on a child, forcible sodomy on a child, and forcible lewd touching during the commission of a burglary. The latter charge is among the sex crimes against children that the state Legislature in 2010 made punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole, deputy district attorney Ryan Wagner said.
Garcia knew the child through her family and attacked her at her relative's house on April 17, 2012, Wagner said.
