MARTINEZ -- A 40-year-old Bethel Island man is facing a minimum prison sentence of 250 years for sexually abusing children in Bethel Island and Oakley.
Joseph Rouse, a contractor, was convicted by jury Wednesday of 22 felony sex crimes, including multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child under age 10 and forcible lewd acts on a child under age 14. The jury was hung as to one count of attempted forcible child molestation, and acquitted Rouse of one count of kidnapping for the purposes of child molestation.
The victims are three girls and one boy who are unrelated to Rouse, prosecutor Alison Chandler said. Their ages ranged from 8 to 13 when the sexual abuse occurred in 2011 and 2012.
Rouse could be sentenced to as many as 400 years at his sentencing Oct. 25.
