Students from all five local elementary schools took to the stage during the Heart of Oakley festival recently.
At least 200 students -- from second- through fifth-graders -- sang to the appreciative crowd during the citywide event.
Participating schools were Gehringer, Iron House, Laurel, Oakley and Vintage.
"The event went was great," said Shannon Page, district elementary music teacher, who directed the performance. "They did a fabulous job. We performed songs about diversity and being proud of our differences."
Page liked the idea of singing at the festival because it was "a great way to get the schools involved in community events."
