Store to give out free gowns for military brides
A local retailer will observe Veterans Day by joining a national effort to give away wedding dresses to women serving in the military or marrying men who are.
His & Hers Formal Wear will participate in Operation Wedding Gown from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 14-15. The store is at 625 First St.
Bridal salons across the country are saluting those who have served or currently are on active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Libya, Kuwait, Korea or Japan by working with Brides Across America, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit.
Military brides often have difficulty planning their wedding while they're overseas, injured or facing economic hardships.
To receive a dress, brides must be engaged and either be on active duty themselves or have a fiancé who's on active duty in the countries listed above.
Brides must show their ID, a copy of deployment papers, orders or other proof that they meet the qualifications. They don't have to live in Brentwood but must visit the store in person to choose a gown.
