DISCOVERY BAY -- The East County Lethernecks of the Delta Diablo Detachment of the Marine Corps League will mark the 238th birthday of the military service with a banquet Fridayat the Discovery Bay Country Club.

Guest of honor will be Lt. Col. Christopher J. Curtain, senior I&I officer of the 6th Air Navy Gunfire Liasion Co. (6ANGLICO), from the Marine Corps Reseve Training Center, Concord. Highlight of the evening will be the cake-cutting ritual instituted in 1921 by former Commandant and World War I Gen. John A. Lejeune.

Unit Cmdr. Don Hester of Oakley has issued a special invitation to all Marines in East County to join the group.

"The Detachment's invitation is in keeping with our familiar slogan, 'Once a Marine, always a Marine,'" Hester said. "The birthday event is an ages-old tradition for all who have served on active duty and the reserves."
