BYRON -- Authorities are searching for vandals who may have set a tractor on fire on Byron Hot Springs property over the weekend.

Fire crews were called about 10 a.m. Saturday to 5400 Byron Hot Springs Road for a report of a tractor that was ablaze, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Chief Hugh Henderson said.

The fire appeared to be suspicious in nature, so the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office was notified and responded to the scene, Henderson said. Alameda County Sheriff's Office Sgt. J.D. Nelson said his agency also responded to assist.

The cause and origin of the fire remained under investigation Monday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 925-313-2648.
