'Dark Blue World to be shown Jan. 19

ANTIOCH -- The International Film Showcase presents "Dark Blue World at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Jan. 19 at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.

On March 15, 1939, Germany invaded Czechoslovakia. Czech and Slovak pilots fleed to England, joining the RAF. After the war, back home, they were put in labor camps, suspected of anti-Communist ideas.

The film is part of a collaborative effort with the International Film Showcase, which has a successful foreign film series in Orinda.

The French, German film has English subtitles.

General admission $8, seniors 62 and older $7.

Art exhibit at Umpqua Bank in Antioch

ANTIOCH -- Umpqua Bank and the The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch are partnering for an art exhibit providing local artists a venue to showcase their work.

Featured artists for December and January exhibit are Eric Hoye, Nina Collosi, Celia Huddleston, Kyoko Campbell, Gloria Cannon, and Jolynn LaCasse.

The exhibit is at 3700 Lone Tree Way, and is open to the public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through January. The Arts & Cultural Foundation is seeking artists for February and March. Stage Right will hold auditions Jan. 6, 7

ANTIOCH -- Stage Right Conservatory will hold auditions for "Phantom of the Opera Jan. 6 and 7 at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center, 213 F St. Seeking actors ages 12 to 18; no experience required.

Performance dates are Feb. 28; March 1, 2, 7,8, 9.

Winter kids art classes set to begin Jan. 8

BRENTWOOD -- Winter art classes begin Jan. 8 at the Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak St., with instructor Nancy Roberts.

"Animal Safari for ages 6 through 12 is set for 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays. In this class kids will capture the spirit of wild animals, farm critters and more, with a variety of drawing and painting media. "Drawing and Painting People for ages 8 through 13 is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
