BRENTWOOD -- Police here will be giving a presentation for parents who want to know how to protect their child from the dark side of the Internet.

Brentwood Police Department will hold the meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 in the theater at Heritage High School, 101 American Ave., Brentwood.

Detective Mike Thompson will discuss how to use social media safely given the inherent dangers of being online such as cyberbullying, sexting, and sexual predators using the Internet to target youth.

Attendees will learn how to recognize red flags when their child is online, the effect of digital media on young people, and what state law has to say about parents' responsibility for how their children use smart phones and computers.

The meeting is open to parents and guardians only.
