Pirates play gimme -- the Panthers take: Consistency has been an elusive quality of both the Antioch High and Pittsburg High boys varsity basketball teams this season. But based on the Panther's decisive 84-60 victory Tuesday night, it looks like Antioch is much closer to its goal.

The Pirates had almost two quarters of fight in them at Richardson Gym. They were still in the games, trailing by six, 38-32, with under a minute left until the half.

But the Panthers scored six answered points in a span of 30 seconds to take a 44-32 lead at intermission.

The third quarter was even worse for Pittsburg and for consistency lovers. The Pirates committed five turnovers and went 4-for-14 from the floor. The next thing they saw was Antioch's dust, the Panthers far ahead of them on the horizon with a 28-point lead going into the final eight minutes.

What consistency there was to be found is this one came form the Antioch side. Tony McCormick has now netted 63 points in his last two games after swishing 28 points against the Pirates.

And guard Charlie Roman came off the bench to riddle Pittsburg for 20, nine of the points three-pointers.
