In the weekly feature called "e-views," we invite readers to answer a question via email or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/BrentwoodNews.
Last week's question:
Are you satisfied with your city's government? Why or why not? What do you think could be done better?
I'M HAPPY that the city of Antioch hired six more officers and expect 18 to 20 more to be hired.
I DON'T LIKE what the city of Oakley has done to Main Street. I live in the vintage area and now have to worry about how long it will take for emergency services to get to our house.
I GUESS THE biggest question would be what is "satisfied?" Quite frankly I am pleased with our local government out here in Brentwood. We didn't get hammered like a lot of municipalities did during the recession as we actually had an emergency fund.
That being said, I am still having issues with the amount of money they wish to spend on the new proposed library. Yes, I DO think that libraries are important, but when I hear $10 million being discussed for the project, I just shake my head. The bigger issue for us is that big elephant in the room regarding future funding of the retirement system. That doesn't seem to be of much importance to our mayor.
This week's question:
A new task force of Antioch Chamber of Commerce members, city and school officials, county social service leaders and charity groups is looking at ways to reduce the city's growing and increasingly visible homeless population. What do you think should or could be done to try to reduce the number of homeless encampments and gathering spots in your community?
