OAKLEY -- In celebration of spring, the Oakley Chamber will again host its Spring Into Oakley fair on Saturday.
This year the Chamber is hoping to expand visibility and add more space to its venue by moving the event to Civic Center Park just outside the downtown Oakley City Hall.
As in past years, the event will feature a bike parade, kids' zone, food and a way to help support the local businesses in town.
"We're hoping to attract the local elementary school-age kids and their families," the chamber's office manager Lynn Stahli said.
Stahli said that the added space for this year's show will lend room for more vendors to attend the event, as well as allow for a community stage where people can show off their acts. Stahli said that space is still available for performers and those interested should contact the chamber.
The main attraction to the event is a bike parade where the chamber encourages children to decorate their bikes with their favorite themes.
"We're encouraging kids to decorate bikes, scooters, wagons, wheelchairs, etc. with anything they'd like be it streamers, balloons, spoke decorations, anything," she said. "Helmets are required."
Stahli encourages that children be creative. The group will be giving a prize for best decoration.
Food vendors on hand will be selling corn dogs and Mexican specialties. There will be carnival-type games with candy as prizes. Craft tables will also be available.
Entry to the event is free; however, there is a $5 charge per child for the kids' zone area with jumps, games and crafts. There will also be an extra charge at some booths for face painting and temporary tattoos.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bike parade begins at 11 a.m.
