KNIGHTSEN -- The East Contra Costa Historical Society will open for the season with a celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 3890 Sellers Ave.
Volunteers will host tours of the museum and have activities for families. The event is the kickoff for the season, which runs April through October when the museum is open to the public on Saturdays and the third Sunday of each month. In addition, it starts the spring schedule of visits by third-grade students of East County where students learn about local history through tours and activities designed to transport them back into the 1880s. The Eden Plains Schoolhouse, a one-room school house built in 1868 in Knightsen, has been restored and visitors will be able to see inside the school. Old-fashioned family games will be offered as well, as will foods like homemade ice cream.
