Fire chief warns owners cleanup time is here: Cleanup time now may save property losses for the homeowner and needless effort and time for volunteers firemen later on, Elmer Gauger, chief of the Brentwood volunteer fire department, declared this week. He urged all property owners to clean up their yards and premises before the weeds and grass become so dry they become a serious fire hazard. Chief Gauger said he made a quick round of inspections a few evenings back and found that most homeowners had their property in good condition. His warning is directed at those who have neglected or postponed the cleanup job. He also added that firemen are empowered to clean up the property and assess the cost against the owner.

West Pittsburg woman has made a religion with "the Unlovable": They are the unlovable. They gravitate toward Barbara Owen like moths to a searchlight, hoping to find meaning to their lives and a way out their abyss. Over the years they arrived at her doorstep, dragging their pasts, their habits and their children. They are drugs addicts, the homeless, the alcoholics, the prostitutes, the ex-convicts.
Some stayed in her living room or back yard for years and others for days, however long it took to pick up the pieces and move on.
"They may look terrible on the outside, but their lovable on the inside," said the 5-year-old West Pittsburg woman, who years ago got into prison ministries and now has a bachelor of arts degree in theology.
Out of the unlikely association has arisen a new church, The Wings of Love Christian Fellowship, 25 members strong.
The only trouble she had was with two brothers who insisted on carrying on their drinking and drug activity.
