OAKLEY -- The city this week embarked on a months-long project to widen Laurel Road.
The work involves paving the north side of what will become a two-lane road in one direction between O'Hara and Rose avenues, as well as creating a sidewalk, curb and gutters.
The city also will install water and sewer lines and create a landscaped median.
In addition, crews will make changes to the parking lot at Laurel Baseball Fields Park, adding more spaces and striping and laying down new asphalt.
The owners of three properties along the north side of Laurel Road will reimburse the city for their share of the frontage improvements, as is typically the case when private development creates the need for additional road work.
The work is expected to be finished by September; in the meantime, Laurel Road will remain open.
Residents with more questions about the project can call Oakley's public works department at 925-625-7155.
