ANTIOCH -- A would-be burglar was caught red-handed by a homeowner Thursday afternoon, but managed to escape capture, police said.
Around 1:45 p.m., a resident on the 3000 block of Lovebird Way returned home to find another man inside his house, burglarizing the residence, according to Sgt. Tarra Nissen of the Antioch Police Department.
Nissen said the resident confronted the man and tried to detain him but the unidentified suspect was able to escape out the front door.
The resident got into his vehicle and began following the suspect, who brandished a firearm but did not fire. The suspect then jumped a fence into the backyard of a residence in the 3000 block of Swallow Way. The victim lost sight of him and returned home until officers arrived.
Police set up a perimeter but did not find the suspect, Nissen added.
