BETHEL ISLAND -- Amateur golfers will be helping an organization deliver meals to the housebound with a benefit tournament.
The 26th annual Meals on Wheels golf competition will take place Saturday at Bethel Island Golf Club, 3303 Gateway Road.
The event starts at 10:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, a putting contest, and registration; the tournament kicks off at 11:30 a.m.
There will be a $5,000 cash prize for the winner of the putting contest -- local firefighters will oversee the event -- and four $2,000 prizes for those who golf a hole-in-one. Recipients will split the money with Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa Inc.
The organization, a coalition of government and nonprofit agencies, delivers prepared meals to elderly clients unable to shop and cook for themselves.
An awards tri-tip dinner catered by Meals on Wheels volunteers will be held at 5 p.m. at the San Joaquin Yacht Club, 550 Riverview Place, Bethel Island.
Participants should mail a check with their $95 donation to Bob Kenny at P.O. Box 1793, Bethel Island, CA 94511. Checks should be payable to SJYC/MOW Fund.
