'Red Wagon Burglar' in again on theft: The "little red wagon" burglar who won notoriety in the days before Brentwood was incorporated by making a wholesale raid on Brentwood stores and hauling off his loot in a toy wagon, became the responsibility of the California Youth Authority when he was sentenced Monday by Superior Judge Wakefield Taylor for the theft of four tires from an Antioch construction firm May 23.

Maxwell Vernon Beard, now 21, was released from the county jail after serving 120 days for vagrancy and tampering with an automobile in Pittsburg.

Since his first exploit in Brentwood, he has been involved in numerous escapades that resulted in a running battle with the law.
