Castro Valley High graduate Nate Moore set an all-conditions state triple jump record for boys with a wind-aided mark of 53 feet, 7 inches at the USATF Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Eugene, Oregon.

The previous mark was 53-61/2 set by Joe Richardson of Pasadena High in 1984. Moore, who's signed with Oregon, won state titles in the long jump and triple jump last month.

  • Three-time Olympic champion Kerri Walsh Jennings tied the women's record for beach volleyball tournament wins in the U.S. with 69, as the ex-Stanford star and April Ross beat Brooke Sweat and Laurent Fendrick 15-21, 21-16, 15-13 at the AVP Milwaukee Open. Walsh Jennings tied retired former partner Misty May-Treanor for the record. She also extended her overall record with her 118th career title. Walsh Jennings and Ross became teammates in September.

  • Highway Boss, ridden by Dennis Carr, edged Global Magician by a head to win the $50,000 Everett Nevin Stakes on closing day of the Alameda County Fair. Highway Boss ($21.20), trained by Molly J. Pearson, ran 51/2 furlongs in 1:04.50.
