Stage Right presents 'Bugsy Malone'

ANTIOCH -- Stage Right Conservatory Theatre Inc. presents the musical comedy "Bugsy Malone" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center, 213 F St.

Bryan Anthony directs this gangster film noir, where the weapons of choice for the gangs are cream pies and flour bombs. Musical numbers include "You Give a Little Love," "My Name is Tallulah" and more.

Rock and blues guitarist comes to Pittsburg

Auditions set for 'Beauty and the Beast'

ANTIOCH -- Stage Right Conservatory Theatre will hold auditions for "Beauty and the Beast" on Monday and Tuesday at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center, 213 F St. The beloved fairy tale will be directed by Bryan Anthony.

Auditions are open to actors ages 8-18. No previous experience is necessary. Performances are Aug. 29, 30, 31 and Sept. 5, 6, 7. To receive an audition time, register at www.srctgrp.org.

ANTIOCH -- The Arts and Cultural Foundation of Antioch presents the Saturday Summer Concert Series with Frankie G & Conviction performing rhythm and blues. The performance is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Waldie Plaza, Second and I streets in downtown Antioch. The free concert series is hosted by the Arts and Cultural Foundation of Antioch, The Lesher Foundation, East County Times, city of Antioch, Republic Services, NRG, Clay Millias & Co., LLP and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce.

ANTIOCH -- NewMagic starring Alex Ramon will perform at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St., at 3 p.m. Sunday.

'Peter Pan' children's summer camp

Blues Review show slated for July 26

ANTIOCH -- Golden State-Lone Star Blues Revue featuring Mark Hummel, Little Charlie Baty and Anson Funderburgh is a cross country meeting of the minds between California and Texas musicians. All have known each other for years.

The rhythm section has played in bands since high school, and all share a deep passion for real blues.

Film series presents "Elsa y Fred"

ANTIOCH -- The International Film Showcase presents "Elsa y Fred" at 2 p.m. July 27 at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St. A retired 77-year-old hypochondriac widower, Fred moves to an apartment in Madrid, and eventually meets his next-door neighbor, Elsa, an elderly and feisty Argentinean, whose behavior is unorthodox, to say the least.

The film is part of a collaborative effort with the International Film Showcase, which has a successful foreign film series in Orinda.

The Spanish film has English subtitles.

Celebration of Art exhibit continues

ANTIOCH -- The Celebration of Art, again being co-hosted by The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch and the Antioch Historical Society, continues through July 16. The 10th annual exhibit is being held at the Antioch Historical Society Museum at 1500 W. Fourth St.

This is a nonjuried exhibit with no required theme. The exhibit is open 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. Admission is free.

Starry Night concert series continues

BRENTWOOD -- The city of Brentwood is hosting the Starry Nights in Brentwood concert series.

The series continues July 18 with the Blues Healers featuring blues and rock. The music will be at City Park, 710 Second St., beginning at 7 p.m. Ample parking is available in the parking garage at 150 City Park Way. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic basket, and enjoy the first of eight summer concerts in the park.

'Wine in the Bay' comes to St. Anne Church

BYRON -- The St. Anne Church Women's Fellowship hosts "Wine in the Bay" from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16. The event will feature hors d'oeuvres, wine, beer, olive oil tastings, a silent auction, music, art and more. Vintners will have wine available for purchase. Cost is $40 per person ($45 beginning Aug. 1); the event address will be printed on your ticket.
