ANTIOCH -- The opening line said it all: The Class of '64 is turning 64!
And so, Jude Chase decided a reunion party was in order for her fellow Holy Rosary School classmates.
To celebrate the milestone, the group will gather Aug. 9 where it all began for the former students -- at the Antioch parochial school.
"We have about 36 people coming from as far away as Connecticut," Chase said. Others will be traveling from South Carolina, Texas, Nevada and Rosarita Beach, Mexico.
The 50-year reunion will be held in the Holy Rosary parish hall and school at 1313 A St.
The afternoon event will be catered by Uno's Chicago Grill, whose owners are Holy Rosary alumni.
Chase said she and Kathy Chatagnier Getson talked about the idea earlier this year when they realized it was going to be 50 years since they graduated from grade school at Holy Rosary.
Their class was the first to attend first through eighth grades there.
Chase tracked down school friends online using a copy of her first-grade Valentine's list.
"I found a good number of classmates that way," she said, adding, "It's been fun sharing memories as I pulled it together."
In addition to a serious game of catch-up, the event will include videos of Antioch and Holy Rosary events from alumni's school days.
"I found photos from back then and we will have a memento table," Chase said.
Adding to the mix of the 20-some students coming to the festivities, six of the nuns who taught them will also be on hand. Also on board, their principal and former eighth-grade teacher, Sister Bernadette, who now lives in San Rafael.
Incidentally, Chase and Getson aren't just former classmates but lifelong friends.
"We were best friends since day one of first grade through the last day of eighth," Chase said. "We lived down the street from each other all those years."
Then 30 years ago, Getson moved to Pennsylvania and a year later, Chase followed suit. The pair now lives down the road from each other.
Chase is looking forward to the reunion.
"I am very happy to know that although we have traveled around the country and the world, we have somehow remained a community of believers,"
