Rants and raves are every day

Dear Editor:

The trolls are no longer confined to the Internet. People who rant and rave and say things that they would never dare say to someone's face are now doing just that.

Of course, they pick those who cannot do anything about it. The targets usually work in retail and can't defend themselves because they would lose their jobs. How many times have you been in a store and heard one of these lowlifes screaming at a clerk? Happens every day. Then they go off on the manager when she's called. Yelling, threatening, refusing to leave.

Common sense, common decency, common courtesy are becoming more and more rare. Disrespect is one of the few things that crosses all lines of party, religion, race and nationality. "It's ALL about ME!" It's embarrassing to be part of the same "human" race as these people. Kind of makes you lose faith in America when this is a growing part of our society.

Immigrants here to stay

Dear Editor:

I believe the majority of the 50 to 90,000 unaccompanied Central American children and young adults who need security, legal aid, medical care, housing, food, clothing, schooling, transportation and someday college and a job are here to stay.

And you can bet those who look anywhere near 18 years of age will receive an already completed voter registration form marked "D."

The immediate problem is where will HHS send them all. I'm sure the pro-amnesty folks who live in Pacific Heights, Mill Valley ... won't be rolling out the red carpet and I'm equally confident President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Luis Guteirrez, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and the rest of our pro-amnesty/open-border lawmakers will make sure these kids are dumped as far away as possible from where they live while bad mouthing the heartless people who either want them sent back home or are advocating we secure southern border as the mandatory first step in a comprehensive pro-American legal immigration solution.

Relief-belief bandwagon

Dear Editor:

After the Supreme Court's decision on Hobby Lobby, I'm just wondering how many companies will jump on the religious-belief bandwagon to avoid paying for employee medical benefits?

What about the employer who doesn't think he should pay for an infant's circumcision?

What, also, of the religions that believe that illness is God's will? How far do we take this "defense" of any given employer?

Treat children with dignity

Dear Editor:

The forum question should have been: "Who do you trust more to uphold the immigration laws, the president or the speaker of the House?"

President Obama has deported more illegal immigrants in five years than President George W. Bush did in eight. Meanwhile, Speaker John Boehner has refused to allow a vote on an immigration bill because he doesn't trust Obama to carry out the laws set by Congress.

Need I remind Republicans that Obama is adhering to the 2008 law, signed by Bush, granting immigrant children from countries other than Mexico and Canada their day in court before an immigration judge.

They have talked impeachment of the president because they said he broke laws set by Congress. Now they talk of impeachment because he won't break a law.

I ask these hate-filled people to take out their hatred on Obama, where it is really aimed, and not at the children who are frightened.

These young human beings should be treated with dignity, not with the hatred-filled screaming of the demonstrators.

Retirement terms confused

Dear Editor:

While watching the news I keep hearing the government referring to my Social Security check and Medicare as entitlements, so I thought I would research this statement.

For those of you who have direct deposit, do you realize that Social Security checks are classified as "Federal Benefit Payments"?

There is a difference between Federal Benefit Payment and Social Security.

  • A person pays in to his Social Security each payday.

A total of 15 percent is taken out of each paycheck and that is before taxes. This is money we have earned and put aside in a government fund marked Social Security. It is not an entitlement.

  • Social Security is not free money -- it belongs to those who worked for it.

  • A Federal Benefit is one that no one has put anything into and receives as free money.

  • It is said that Social Security won't last much longer. It won't if the government keeps using it to balance its budget or giving it away as a Federal Benefit to those who have not worked for it

  • Federal benefits are for those who have not. Don't take from our Social Security and put it into the Federal Benefit Fund.

  • Stop stealing from the Social Security fund.
