OAKLEY

Registration under way for fishing derby

Young anglers are invited to reel 'em in at Oakley's annual fishing derby this month.

The city is hosting the annual event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Antioch/Oakley pier at Bridgehead Road and Wilbur Avenue.

The free fun is for children ages 1 through 15. Participants can register before the event at City Hall, 3231 Main St., or at Hook, Line & Sinker, 3100 Main St. Alternatively, youngsters can register at the pier from 8 to 9 a.m. just before the derby gets under way.

In addition to a free lunch, children will receive awards by age category for the largest, smallest and most fish caught.

Participants should bring their own fishing pole because only a few loaners will be available, but the city will provide free bait.

For more information, call 926-625-7041 or email rec1@ci.oakley.ca.us.
