Community resource fair is Sept. 4

The Antioch Unified School District hosts its annual Community Resource Fair from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Park Middle School, 1 Spartan Way, in Antioch.

The event features a variety of service groups and individuals offering help and info to students, parents and the community at large. Organizations representing health, nutrition, child care and much more will be on hand, in addition to Antioch Mayor Wade Harper, Assemblyman Jim Frazier, MADD Science, Todos Unidos, PAL Program, TUPE, American Red Cross, Girls Scouts, Street Smarts, mobile health clinic, Los Medanos and more.

There will also be two parent training classes offered. AUSD is still accepting participating groups, including sport leagues, service providers and the like. For more details and info, call 925-779-7500, ext. 40524.

Hot-rod builder to hold open house

Local hot rod builder Jerry Sezar will hold his annual open house next month.

The event will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at his shop, 3060 Knightsen Ave., Knightsen.

Visitors are invited to bring their own custom and classic hot rods to the free event, which will include a hamburger-and-hot dog barbecue as well as the live band Bad Boy Bruce.

Poets to perform at open mic session

Some of the Bay Area's poetic cream of the crop will be performing early next month.

The groups Sistahs With Ink and Brothas With Ink will be presenting the event 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Railroad Book Depot, 650 Railroad Ave.

This event will feature: poet and playwright Sonjay Odds; writer, Larry Ukali-Johnson-Redd; musicians Derek Braxton, Robert Turner and Tanya Windham and singer, Ta'Hara Mouton, and organizer Luella Hill-Dudley.

There will also be an open mic session.
