Rasnick leads Amador Valley by Granada

  • Junior Scott Rasnick scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Amador Valley High boys basketball team to a 58-54 win over Granada in East Bay Athletic League action on Feb. 11. Kameron Johnson led Granada with 19 points and Luis Ramirez had 18. After leading by seven points at halftime, the Dons held on during a high-scoring second half for their 16th win of the season overall.

    Granada becomes eligible for NCS

  • The Granada girls soccer team rallied for a thrilling 2-1 win over rival Livermore on Feb. 13 to clinch a .500 league record and meet the minimum standard for a NCS Division I playoff berth. Sophomore Emilie Allum scored the go-ahead goal in the second half, after Taylor Huston scored the tying goal off a Megan Amick free kick. Tori Nicolo scored for Livermore off a Sarah Wilkinson throw-in to stake the Cowboys to a 1-0 halftime lead. Granada played at Freedom in a first round match on Feb. 19, after this newspaper went to press.

    Monte Vista wraps up EBAL title

  • Chelsea Barry scored in the 19th minute, and the Monte Vista High girls soccer team beat rival San Ramon Valley 1-0 on Feb. 13 to conclude the East Bay Athletic League season as unbeaten league champions. In handing the Wolves (15-1-6, 9-1-4 EBAL) their first loss, the Mustangs (20-0-2, 13-0-1) nailed down the top seed in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs, which kicked off this week. Monte Vista hosted Heritage on Feb. 19, after this newspaper went to press. The Mustangs have a prolific offense and an airtight defense, having outscored opponents 51-6 combined. Mallory Hromatko leads the Mustangs with 10 goals and 12 assists for 32 points.

    SRV boys soccer bests Monte Vista

  • San Ramon Valley finished the EBAL boys soccer season strongly with a 3-1 win over Monte Vista on Feb. 13. Heading into the section playoffs, the Wolves had won five of their last six games and the last three in a row. Nathan Miller, Andrew Evans and Casey McSunas scored against the Wolves, who finished third in the EBAL standings, a spot behind the Mustangs. Monte Vista was the No. 2 seed in Division I and hosted No. 15 Antioch on Feb. 19. San Ramon Valley was the No. 5 seed and hosted No. 12 Mt. Eden.

  • San Ramon Valley at Monte Vista boys basketball, Feb. 21. 7 p.m. -- The Danville rivals will meet again after playing an epic game in the first round of the league season, which the Wolves won in overtime.

  • NCS playoffs, soccer, Feb. 22 -- Quarterfinal matches in the boys and girls divisions will be played at home site of the highest seeded team in each pairing.

  • NCS seeding meeting, basketball, Feb. 23 -- Playoff brackets will be released in boys and girls basketball on the North Coast Section website (www.cifncs.org).

  • Chelsea Barry, Monte Vista soccer -- Barry scored the winning goal as the Monte Vista girls soccer team notched its first win of the season over rival San Ramon Valley, after the Danville powers played to draws in the Tri-Valley Classic and the first round of league play.
